Geographical position:

Serbia is a landlocked country in Central and Southeastern Europe, covering the central part of the Balkan Peninsula and the southern part of the Pannonian Plain. Serbia is bordered by Hungary to the north; Romania and Bulgaria to the east; Albania and the Republic of Macedonia to the south; and Montenegro , Bosnia and Hrezegovina and Croatia to the west.

Surface:

The land covers 88.361 km2. Land boundaries: Hungary (151 km), Romania (476 km), Bulgaria (318 km), Macedonia (221 km), Albania (115 km), Montenegro (203 km), Bosnia and Herzegovina (302 km), and Croatia (241 km).

Population:

9,396,411 inhabitants. Composition of population: The majority of the populations are Serbs 66%; national minorities are Albanians, Hungarians, Bosniaks, Roma, Croatians, and others.

System of government:

republic

Capital:
Belgrade (1,576,124 inhabitants), the economic, traffic, cultural and academic centre of the country.

Official language:

Serbian written with a Cyrillic alphabet (official nationwide); Romanian, Hungarian, Slovak, Ukrainian, and Croatian (all official in Vojvodina); Albanian (official in Kosovo)

Highest peak:

Daravica: 2,656 m above sea level.

Climate:
in the north, continental climate (cold winters and hot, humid summers with well distributed rainfall); in other parts, continental and Mediterranean climate (hot, dry summers and autumns and relatively cold winters with heavy snowfall)

Currency:
Serbian dinar RSD (1 dinar = 100 para). Foreign currency can be exchanged in banks, exchange offices, post offices, hotels, cheques can be cashed in banks.
